Senior Mechanic

REPORTING: Reports to the Mechanical Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, and Offshore Installation Manager

SUPERVISION: Supervises the Mechanic

LOCATION: Offshore location

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
- Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
- Knowledge of technical calculations required for safe operation of the drilling unit and basic computer skills

BASIC FUNCTION:

- Maintain and repair mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment onboard the rig

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations/Maintenance:

- Perform daily inspections and maintenance of mechanical equipment Authority I
- Organize and promote the Rig Maintenance System Authority I
- Carry out periodic maintenance according to the R i g Ma i n t e n a n c e S ys t e m ( A MO S ) guidelines Authority II
- Maintain and repair power plants and monitor power distribution— ensure power is available at all times Authority I
- Operate, maintain and repair as necessary the engine cooling water system, lube oil system, and fuel system Authority I
- Troubleshoot and repair faulty mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic drilling equipment and tools Authority II
- Assist in maintaining marine equipment, i.e. cranes, , ballast pumps and valves, auxiliary equipment, etc. Authority II
- Ensure that the permit to work and isolation systems are followed Authority I
- Implement the follow-up requirements to audits, as issued by Customers’ Regulatory Authorities or rig management Authority II
- Assist in ensuring that all third-party equipment is fit for purpose, certified, correctly installed, and maintained while on the rig Authority II
- Maintain an adequate supply of spares in order to fulfill maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation Authority I
- Supply information to assist in the development of maintenance and repair budget Authority II
- Ensure that service, maintenance and other operational reports are accurate and complete Authority I
- Liaise with the marine department regarding the loading, ordering and use of fuel, potable water, and drill water in consideration of the rig’s stability Authority II
- Inform supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig Authority I
- Plan and coordinate with other departments prior to any major activity such as rig moves Authority II
- Carry out classification society surveys as part of continuous survey of machinery Authority I
- Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to Rig Manager Authority II

QHSE:

- Incorporate the P L A N N I N G process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team Authority I
- Participate in the ACTION process Authority I
- Ensure subordinate personnel are properly trained in the ACTION process Authority I
- Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed Authority I
- Demonstrate commitment to Company safety policies through leadership and guidance Authority I
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for environmental protection Authority I
- Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre-job meetings as required Authority I
- Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to supervisor and other department heads Authority I
- Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig Authority I

Personnel:

- Meet the training requirements as per the applicable training matrix Authority I
- Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level Authority II
- Ensure that all subordinates have the necessary skills and experience to fulfill their assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner Authority I
- Recommend promotions or disciplinary action up to and including discharge Authority I
- Supervise and guide crew members in their On-the-Job Training (OJT) program Authority I
- Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures Authority II

DEFINITION OF DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:

Authority I: To act.
Authority II: To act but inform supervisor and/or other interested parties.
Authority III: To obtain supervisor’s approval before acting.
